Interested organizations must submit a concise Motivation Letter by 29 November 2025 to be considered for the grant, which will select eight sites for the 2026–2028 implementation period.

The International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Limited (ITOPF) is a non-profit organisation that provides objective technical expertise and advice on preparing for and responding to marine spills of oil and chemicals from ships.The ITOPF R&D Award provides funding for innovative research focused on improving the response to oil and chemical spills from ships. The 2026 application window is now open and closes on 1 December 2025. The award supports short-term projects (one to two years) with up to £60 000 in funding and PhD projects with up to £40 000 plus a student stipend and university fees.
