2012 MPA Conference

This five-day event will take place in November 2012 in San Francisco, CA and will bring together global MPA practitioners, NGOs, government authorities, equipment providers, and donors to discuss the successes and challenges of MPA management around the world. We will explore the key components to effective MPA enforcement and give practical examples of their implementation. More than 20 speakers from MPAs around the world will present on common challenges and the innovative strategies and tools that are working for them. The event will include presentations, breakout sessions, and panel discussions, along with informal opportunities to network.

Conference Theme: 'Coastal Dynamics Research Emphasizing Practical Applications. Coastal processes span a wide range of temporal and spatial scales with complex and nonlinear interactions. 2nd International Workshop on Symbiotic Copepoda (IWOSC)

The workshop is a follow-up of the first IWOSC, held during December 2010 at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, U.S.A., and still aims to combat the declining number of experts in our field. This workshop will be hosted by the Department of Biodiversity, University of Limpopo.

Symposium of Contemporary Conservation Practice

The best way to remove waste from the sea is by holding coastal cleanups and raising the issue of littering as a human ill we can do without as it is harming the creatures living in the sea and on the coast. Join us in September on the South African Coast or waterways and help the environment.

Operational Oceanography: Synoptic Views of the Sea 2012

This course will demonstrate the data resources available from operational programs, which can be assembled, synthesized and displayed in a single software platform (Integrated Data Viewer). The data for the course will be taken from a single selected day (Near-Real-Time [NRT] or as close as possible) to demonstrate the enhanced value of multiple, overlapping observing systems. The emphasis is on winds, waves, currents, surface temperature and ice (ocean elements related to hazardous conditions). [Surface salinity is anticipated to be available in the near future and will be added.] Measured and modeled parameters are both included, as appropriate.

2012 International Aquarium Congress (IAC)

The IAC, which takes place every four years, is the most important and prestigious event for the public aquarium industry. It has been held in several countries, covering Europe, the Americas and Asia, and was most recently held in Shanghai, China, in 2008. 2012 marks the first year that the congress will take place in the southern hemisphere and on African soil.
