IMBER IMBIZO

The future of marine biogeochemistry, ecosystems and societies. Multi-dimensional approaches to the challenges of global change in continental margins and open ocean systems. The objective of this third conference in the IMBIZO series is to explore the linkages and interactions between humans and ecological and biogeochemical systems in the continental margins and open ocean in order to further our understanding of human-ocean-human interactions with respect to global change.

7th International Conference on Coastal Dynamics (Arcachon Convention Centre, France, from 2013-06-24 08:00 to 2013-06-28 17:00)

Conference Theme: 'Coastal Dynamics Research Emphasizing Practical Applications. Coastal processes span a wide range of temporal and spatial scales with complex and nonlinear interactions. We especially solicit papers that integrate or aggregate spatial/temporal scales and explore the coupling between different processes to respond to practical coastal applications.

 

2nd International Workshop on Symbiotic Copepoda (IWOSC)

The workshop is a follow-up of the first IWOSC, held during December 2010 at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, U.S.A., and still aims to combat the declining number of experts in our field. Thus, we want to train and recruit more young scientists to maintain the scientific legacy of our smaller, but important, group within the global copepod community. This workshop will be hosted by the Department of Biodiversity, University of Limpopo.

Conference themes include: Environmental Impact Assessment of near-shore and offshore discharges; Planning of sanitation and treatment systems in coastal areas; Chlorination systems and their environmental impact; Eutrophication and discharge impacts on marine biology; Water quality management, monitoring and control of environmental pollution due to marine discharges; Oceanographic aspects related to sealine construction and design surveys; Risk analysis in sealine construction; Environmental aspects of the coastal infrastructures construction and operation; Ports and dredging; Choices for coastal defence; Coastal hydrodynamics, sediment transport and erosion, shoreline management, beach stabilization and erosion control; Problems related to the human use of coastal areas; and Climate change impacts, sea level rise.

Symposium of Contemporary Conservation Practice

The best way to remove waste from the sea is by holding coastal cleanups and raising the issue of littering as a human ill we can do without as it is harming the creatures living in the sea and on the coast. Join us in September on the South African Coast or waterways and help the environment.

Operational Oceanography: Synoptic Views of the Sea 2012

This course will demonstrate the data resources available from operational programs, which can be assembled, synthesized and displayed in a single software platform (Integrated Data Viewer). The data for the course will be taken from a single selected day (Near-Real-Time [NRT] or as close as possible) to demonstrate the enhanced value of multiple, overlapping observing systems. The emphasis is on winds, waves, currents, surface temperature and ice (ocean elements related to hazardous conditions). [Surface salinity is anticipated to be available in the near future and will be added.] Measured and modeled parameters are both included, as appropriate.

2012 International Aquarium Congress (IAC)

The IAC, which takes place every four years, is the most important and prestigious event for the public aquarium industry. It has been held in several countries, covering Europe, the Americas and Asia, and was most recently held in Shanghai, China, in 2008. 2012 marks the first year that the congress will take place in the southern hemisphere and on African soil.
