The South African Network for Coastal and Oceanic Research (SANCOR) generates and communicates knowledge and advice. It promotes the wise and informed use and management of the marine and coastal resources and environments in South Africa.
To fulfil its objective SANCOR comprises a body consisting of the SANCOR Forum, the SANCOR Steering Committee,SANCOR Co-Ordinating and Task Groups and a Research Programme that is managed by a number of advisory committees.
SANCOR membership is via the SANCOR Forum which is a broad based consultative, communicative and advisory body that co-ordinates, facilitates, stimulates and reviews marine science, engineering and technology (MSET) in South Africa.
In the past membership of the SANCOR Forum was restricted to South African institutions. However the SANCOR Forum would now like to broaden its base to include individual members as well. In this way participation in SANCOR activities will be open and transparent and hopefully this will instill a sense of ownership in the MSET community. Hence any individual who has a vested interest in marine science, engineering and technology is hereby invited to become a member of SANCOR, including individuals who are already affiliated to current SANCOR institutional members.
Individual members pay an annual membership fee of R50.00 except students who are offered free membership. Individual members who attend the SANCOR Forum meeting shall attend as observers. Individual members unfortunately do not have voting rights but may participate fully in the deliberations and discussions of the Forum meetings unless a Member of the Forum, with voting rights, objects. Individual members may submit documents to the Secretariat for distribution with the Forum meeting documents. Such documents shall be relevant to matters under consideration by the Forum.
If you are interested in becoming a SANCOR forum individual member, please complete the details on the SANCOR Membership Response Form, and forward it to Ms. ReneƩ le Roux, SANCOR Secretariat, Private Bag X2, Rogge Bay 8012, fax number (021) 402-3172, or please e-mail her at rleroux@sfri.wcape.gov.za
