You are invited to explore the Department of Environmental Affairs’ new pride and glory, the SA Agulhas II, which graced our shores for the first time in May 2012. The polar research vessel is built strong enough to carry supplies and personnel to the South Africa’s research bases in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica for decades to come. She embarked on her first expedition to Antarctica in July 2012, and sailed back to South Africa on the 2nd of Aug 2012. The Annual Open Day offers the public a unique chance to come along and learn more about the Department’s work in the oceans and coastal environment, the ship and its operations.
