SANCOR Forum 2016

  The forum meeting was themed:

“Mind the gap - challenges in crossing the boundaries of research, policy and management.“

The forum took place in Port Elizabeth on 15 June 2016 and the presentations and discussion has been published as a commentary in the South African Journal of Science – Citation: Von der Heyden S, Lukey P, Celliers L, Prochazka K, Lombard AT. Science to policy – Reflections on the South African reality. S Afr J Sci. 2016;112(11/12), Art.#0183, 6 pages. http://dx.doi.org/10.17159/sajs.2016/a0183

The purpose of the 2016 forum was to bring together South African marine and coastal research community to build on common positions and perspectives towards research integration in management and policy. Research underpins knowledge, which is a key resource in any economy. Yet although an absolute necessity to ensuring that research benefits the nation, closing the gap between research, knowledge production and management remains a complex challenge. This year's forum discussed approaches to integrating research into practice and policy, not only at a regional, but also a global level and provides an avenue for reflection and discussion on how best to bridge the science-policy-management divide.
